27th Annual Conference of the German Society for Cytometry (DGfZ) held in Jena from October 4-6, 2017.

The 27th Annual Conference of the German Society for Cytometry will be held in Jena from October 4-6, 2017.

With an expected number of more than 150 scientists, students and industry representatives the conference offers excellent networking opportunities on the floor, in the sessions , and at the social events.

Jena is one of the German centers for optics and photonics. Internationally renowned companies such as Carl Zeiss, SCHOTT, Jenoptik and globally acknowledged research institutions are based here, creating individual solutions for demanding clients. Jena is the location for experts, and the knowledge of the city’s specialists is much asked for worldwide

The conference provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange in basic research, clinical and industrial developments. Aim of the conference is the promotion of methodological and technical innovation in flow cytometry (FCM), image cytometry (ICM) and slide based cytometry (SBC) which furthers understanding of the cell and its integration into multi-cellular systems. The conference facilitates the communication between physicists, chemists, engineers, biologists, biomedical specialists and industry representatives and sparks new impulses for the participants own research. At the same time it is building bridges for the implementation and commercialization of new diagnostic and biomedical approaches.

The yearly meeting of the society is characterised by a friendly and warm atmosphere, which gives upcoming graduate students and post-doc’s the opportunity to present their research in a both stimulating and relaxed surrounding (see gallery of the 2016 conference). This is accompanied by interesting lectures at an affordable meeting price, and an almost legendary evening social event.

Students Welcome

Due to the relatively low registration fees the conference especially encourages young researchers, post-docs and students to participate. The young researchers have the possibility to present their work in a friendly yet professional environment in the form of poster contributions and short presentations. With this we want to foster the exchange of ideas and interaction between postgraduates and established researchers. In addition we offer pre-conference tutorials especially but not only for students.

The Prize is dedicated to award a younger scientist for a scientific work out of the wide field of Cytometry which appears outstanding both in scientific quality and innovation as well as presentation and layout. It is expected that submitted documents should reflect a (almost) finished scientific graduation (Diploma, Bachelor, Ph.D. or an equivalent work). The graduation in written form (already printed or in press) and/or scientific papers already published (or in press) will be considered in the reviewing process by the council board of the society.
